Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page...

Following exciting fundraising challenges in previous years (London marathon 2008 for UNICEF and London Triathlon 2009 for Iqra School Oxford) I am pleased to announce that in 2010 I will be cycling from Birmingham to London to fundraise for the 304th Birmingham MAB Scout Group ;p

Why am I cycling and what are the details of the challenge?

Following a rather lack lustre performance during the cycling leg of the London triathlon in 2009, a performance that would make a tortoise proud, I set myself the personal challenge to improve my leg strength and stamina in order to part-take in a long distance cycling challenge this year... Hence, in the early hours of Saturday 17th July 2010 I endeavour to get into my cycle shoes, slap on my helmet and set off on my mountain bike from the 304th MAB Scout group base in Moseley (Birmingham) to join the Grand Canal Union along its off-road track up till its termination in Central London. From here I plan to join the highways to reach Gillwell Park (North East London) i.e. home of The Scout Association since 1919... Although I would love to complete the ~150 mile challenge in 1 day, due to practicalities I may need 2. The distance and route should prove to be both challenging and memorable as I have not previously cycled this distance in this time frame or even experienced an array of riding terrains and climates. The lengthy route should also provide the perfect opportunity to explore the unseen beauty of the UK.. iA I endeavour to share this beauty and the remainder of my gripping journey with you on facebook!

Who are 304th Birmingham MAB Scout Group and why sponsor them?

The 304th Birmingham MAB Scout Group was set up in 2005 as the first ever Muslim scout group in Birmingham. Thy are a registered charity with the UK Scout Association and their aim is to help nurture confident young Muslim citizens, equipped with essential life skills and empowered to contribute positively to their community. They run the national scouting programme for ages 6 to 18 with scouts achieving badges and awards in a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities including arts and craft, environmental awareness, first aid, hiking, archery, climbing, camping and much more, all in an islamic environment.

By sponsoring the Scout group, you will be directly helping shape the Muslim youth of tomorrow, i.e. the youth that will shape our futures!

Sponsorship of 1.00gbp/mile would be greatly appreciated ;p
