SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

THE DUMBALL VENTURE IN AID OF TEENAGE CANCER TRUST ARE GRATEFUL  TO RECEIVE DONATIONS IN MEMORY of

BETTY WEST 13.9.28 to 28.5.14

I have just learned the very sad news that whilst we were fundraising deep in the Sahara a very close friend of my family, Betty West, has died. I have known this remarkable lady since I was born. Like so many, Betty succumbed to cancer and though she was 85 she maintained her lifelong interest in young people and supported several charities concerned with their welfare, both on a personal level and in her role as Mayoress during her late husband, Douglas West's term of office as  Mayor of Stockport. Her two daughters Angela and Linda know that Betty, as a past donor, strongly approved of the special cause of the Teenage Cancer Trust and would have been delighted to know that she was instrumental in furthering their aims. With this in mind Angela, herself strongly linked with this devastating disease through her work as a Consultant Histopathologist, and Linda, inextricably linked with the welfare of young people in her role as Head of a large primary school with a special needs unit, are asking that donations in Betty's memory should please be made to the trust through this page.

The Teenage Cancer Trust are extremely grateful for this generous gesture and wish to pass on their condolences to the family and friends of the late Betty West.

Hi Everyone!

Once again, from May 23rd 2014 to June 1st 2014, we are driving a banger - a £400 car, more than 3000 miles, from Brighton to Morocco in North Africa and then journeying into the Sahara Desert.

Every donation you make goes to Teenage Cancer Trust, helping to save young people's lives and supporting them through the horrors of Cancer.

I would REALLY appreciate a donation of any amount you can afford. We will be providing updates on our journey as we progress!

What is the Dumball

The Dumball is an idea spawned seven years ago inspired by the work of Teenage Cancer Trust. Every 2 years epic journeys are undertaken by a convoy of elderly cars each carrying a team of enthusiastic young people who have worked very hard to make their cars fit to withstand the long drive. They elaborately decorate and theme their cars and themselves and  have a whale of a time along the way whilst pledging evermore challenging sponsorship targets!

It seems to work, so far the Dumball venture has been able to donate £250,000 to Teenage Cancer Trust mostly comprising a large number of small donations. Please donate whatever you can afford. EVERY donation counts.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

This is their story:

Around seven young people aged between 13 and 24 are diagnosed with cancer every day in the UK. They need expert treatment and support from the moment they hear the word ‘cancer.’ We’re the only charity dedicated to making this happen.

  • We bring young people together so they can be treated together, by teenage cancer experts, in the best place for them.
  • We educate young people about cancer and work with health professionals to develop their knowledge so we can improve the speed and quality of diagnosis.
  • And by funding research and working with our partners in the NHS, government and organisations both nationally and internationally, we strive to improve survival rates.

We lead the world in the care of young people with cancer. Together with these young people, their families and the passion of our supporters, we’re challenging the NHS and transforming lives.
