Story
In May 2009, 14 Martin Currie employees will travel to Mozambique in partnership with Habitat For Humanity, to assist in the building of homes for people living in poverty.
Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit, non-denominational housing charity whose goal is to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness around the world.
The Martin Currie employees taking part are:
Caroline Anderson, Kevin Hanley, Nadya Isack, Lynne Jack, Lynne MacColl, Ross Moore, Steven Oates, Pat O'Connor, Colin Ritchie, Stewart Struthers, Andrew Surrey, Olive Taylor, David Weipers and Hazel Whittley.
Since 1975, Mozambique has suffered a bloody civil war and the largest flood ever to be recorded in Africa, which has seen over 5 million people either displaced from their homes or forced to live in inadequate, temporary shelter. The country's woes have been compounded by a severe drought in 2002 and the HIV/AIDS pandemic that is currently sweeping the country which has already affected 17% of the population.
The combined devastation of war, poverty and AIDS has orphaned 1.3 million children and left 70% of the country living below the poverty line.
