Story
Hello!
Those who know me know why I fundraise, so instead of boring everyone else here, if you want to know more, please have a look at my blog: www.mybravedad.org Where you can find the history as well as current events and projects.
Very briefly, my Dad was diagnosed in November 2005 with advanced stomach cancer (spreading to oesophageal cancer later), which he fought every day with such a quiet and dignified bravery that I have never seen in anyone before now.
He had major surgery in January '06, a long stay in ICU (Sheffield Hallam's ICU staff are amazing, really can't thank them enough!), 3 further operations, radiotherapy treatment and complication after complication.
All I have ever wanted to do was to make him smile... so expect lots of further silly events for him to look down on and cringe. :-)
If anyone has suggestions, as to what I (and any of my kind friends!) can do in order to raise money in honour of my wonderfully brave Dad, please email me at: angela@alfdesigns.co.uk
Hopefully, the more money we raise for Cancer Research, the less people will have to show such bravery against such a cruel disease.
So please sponsor me now as the sooner the target is raised, the sooner I can stop asking you all for money! ;o)
Many thanks for your support. x
Angela. xx
I've been raising money for charity since early 2005 (helping to raise over £51,000), so I'm starting my own solo venture to help officially: www.mybravedad.org
This is a HUGE project! Once again I'm working on a charity calendar (all proceeds equally to Cancer Research UK, Ashgate Hospice and the NSPCC) sponsored by Thorntons. We are all giving our time, skills and work for free, so every penny is going to the three charities. The ethical internet shop is active and a link has been posted on my website (www.alfdesigns.co.uk) There was a Launch Party in early October where Christine Talbot from Calendar News started proceedings for us! My dad and I even made it to page 3 of the Derbyshire Times!
Update #7
We took part in the first Chesterfield Race For Life in 2009 (my 5th Race). Thank you for sponsoring us again. There were 4 of us this year, and we raised over £200.
Update #6
18th of May 2008 I took part in the Race For Life again. This was my fourth year, so thank you for supporting me again! A team of 7 of us made it round and raised several hundred for Cancer Research!
Update #5
Although they are unfortunately not included in this site, I have been the designer of 4 other charity calendars over the last 3 years. I'm hoping to include this site again in the next one I do!
Update #4
October 2007 and it will soon be my Dad's birthday! Many thanks to Mrs Nora Harris and "The Cornershop Cowgirls" for including this page in the fund-raising from their 2008 calendar (I photographed and designed it with my Dad). They raised a whopping £200 for my Dad as well as raising another £200 each for the British Heart Foundation and the Chesterfield Hospital Prostate Cancer Unit! THANK YOU!!! xx
Update #3
May 20th 2007 will be my third Race For Life. This time with one of my best friends Sarah and my Mum! We will be plodding our fastest round the Peak District course, so feel free to support us!
Update #2
The 10km fundraiser walk at Chatsworth on October 29th 2006 went really well! There was a small group of us, and it was a beautiful day. Thank you for your support!
My first update... Hurrah!!!
Thanks to my 'friends' at work for suggesting this, I will be starting a strict diet as of August the 1st, as training for more strenuous events! This will be very hard for me as I eat ALL the time (I have a drawer at work full of sweets and chocolate!). For the whole month I won't be allowed any chocolate, sweets, cake, biscuits or alcohol! I will only be allowed three small and healthy meals. I'm close to tears typing this as I'm enjoying a 'Bounty' bar at the moment! Any donations of encouragement will be greatly appreciated...
