Story

17th August: A bit achy today after so much cycling! My bike now looks like it needs some work done too. The first day was the hardest day for me. We set off at 8.30am to tackle the 53 miles. It started off well, but we experienced very heavy rain in the last few hours of the cycle. I arrived (last!) into Penrith at 7pm shaky and cold.

On Saturday it rained and rained, and then rained some more. Skidding was an issue!

On Sunday it was a real treat leaving the desolate moors and descending into Newcastle to reach Tynemouth. Cycling the Newcastle bridges was great knowing we had almost cracked it, although it felt quite alien cycling past people and traffic when on the moors the only civilisation was the odd cyclist or sheep!

What an experience! Any more sponsors are very welcome, thank you people!

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page!

I will be doing a 140 mile cycle from the North West coast (Whitehaven) to the North East coast (Tynemouth) in August this year, over 3 days. The money I raise will be going to Amnesty International.

The money will be going to the charity as a whole, but the challenge hopes to highlight specific cases that Amnesty aims to support.

Journalist Chief Ebrima B Manneh was arrested in July 2006 and has been held incommunicado and without trial ever since, even though a West African court has ruled that he should be released. It is believed that he was arrested because he had attempted to print a BBC article critical of the Gambian government. Chief Ebrima's family members are very distressed by the lack of information on his whereabouts, and face financial struggles as a result of this 'disappearance'.

With your help, Amnesty fights for the justice of people like Ebrima, who is a prisoner of conscience.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Amnesty International UK Section Charitable Trust gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Thanks guys! Love Nic x x
