EDINBURGH MEADOWS MARATHON COMPLETED IN A TIME OF 01:34 (i.e. a game of football + a little injury time!)The worst aspect of this course was having to count off the number of laps we had been round the meadows but thanks to the TV screen I kept on course! There were 7 in total followed by a final shorter lap which still meant we had to climb up mid-meadow walk for the 8th time! However, knowing that all the money raised so far will be going directly to Debra, makes it all worthwhile! I haven't quite reached my target so please do continue to donate here. A massive thank you to all those who have already donated and yes, I did remember to stop at the finish!I have decided to take a stroll in the park! After the success of the half marathon in Leith 3 years ago (time flies!), I will be running in the "Meadows Marathon". I love this name as it very much implies I will be running a full marathon, however it is a half marathon. Nonetheless, this does not make it any easier as we all know too well how boggy the Meadows can get. Therefore, I will not be kidding myself that it will be any easier than a full marathon!
If, like me, you watched Channel 4's documentary, "The Boy Whose Skin Fell Off", you will already know why I want to do this. The documentary was about a young man called Jonny Kennedy who had been born with the devastating skin condition Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB). Sadly, Jonny died at just 36 years of age but it was his story that inspired me to undertake something worthwhile in order to help contribute to the research required to further understand this skin condition.
My father, who is a dermatologist, has done some research into the condition and he tells me that there is still much more to find out about the necessary treatment. So please sponsor me now! :-)
Many thanks for your support; it is very much appreciated!!
