Hi! I'm a survivor of bacterial meningococcal meningitis and septicemia. In November 2008 whilst in hospital, I promised myself that if I survived and recovered enough, I would one day run the London Marathon in aid of meningitis! I never thought it would happen to me: I had just started university and was 19 years old. Yet meningitis strikes anyone, at any age, at any time. It can kill in a few hours and can change lives.
Meningitis nearly killed me and put my life on hold as I suffered neurological impairments involving memory, balance and coordination, sequencing ability and emotional problems. However, it has given me an opportunity to raise awareness and fundraise as a Community Ambassador for Meningitis Now.
We must continue to push for the Meningitis B vaccine to be put into the immunisation schedule, and to search for an end to meningitis.
I'm running to fulfil a longstanding goal: to raise money for Meningitis Now and to use my experience to raise awareness of the disease. I cannot do this without your help. Together, let's Beat It Now.
