Story

Welcome to our page. Please take the time to read and see what we will be doing in this challenge. I know that in this current economic climate times are hard for everyone, but if you can spare just a couple of quid (a pint/glass of wine) and sponsor us we will be most grateful. It really will make a difference!!

Just a little about our team: back row starting left is James, Georgina & Ron; middle row, Darryl; bottom row starting left is Pete (he's not in our team, he's just our guru!) & Nikki. We all met last year whilst taking part in an amazing trip to Zambia, to White Water down the Zambezi in aid of Guide Dogs. Thanks to the lovey Nikki we decided to take part in this, though some maybe more ready for it than others!

Role on the Challenge!

Our team will traverse the fells and climb The Old Man of Coniston, mountain bike the fantastic trails of the Grizedale Forest and paddle a course on Coniston Water using the latest 'sit on top' canoes - all within ten hours.

It goes something like this;

The mountain bike route for the challenge will involve a 17km route of beautiful lake shore lanes, rugged forest roads and long flowing descents on the fast single-track trails of Grizedale forest.

Launching from the shores of Coniston Water on our sit on top kayaks, we will paddle on a 3km lap that will be designed depending on the prevailing weather conditions on the day.

Leaving Coniston village behind, the 10km hike route will take us to the summit of the famous ‘Old Man of Coniston’, 803 metres above sea level.

Guide Dogs for the Blind recieve no government funding but rely totally on voluntary donations, providing an invaluable service for blind and partially sighted people, by giving them the freedom and independance that a guide dog gives them.

They support 4,700 guide dog partnerships in the UK and the cost of each dog to it's new owner is a nominal 50p to ensure no one is prevented from having one due to lack of money.

It costs £10 a day to support a guide dog and with your help blind and partially sighted people will be able to lead a more independent life which we all take for granted.

A few details of the cost for each dog is as follows:

£60 - Buys a harness, handle, collar & bell

£100 - Provides four long canes

£250 - Feeds a guide dog for a year

£600 - Provides training for one visually impaired person

£1000 - Supports the basic training of a guide dog

£3,650 - Supports a working guide dog partnership for one year

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor us online.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Guide Dogs will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor us now!

Many thanks for your support.

The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.
