Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

The Oxford City Guild of Chefs have a gala dinner every year held within an Oxford College, this year is the Guilds 50th Anniversary Dinner, it is being held at Christchurch College on the 18th March 2017

We are raising money for OOSO (Oxford, Oesophagus, and Stomach Organisation).

We are particularly keen to raise money and draw attention to this local based charity, as the Guilds Treasurer Rob Dennis (Worcester College Head Chef) was diagnosed with Oesophagus Cancer and following treatments and support from OOSO he has now returned to work, and continues his recovery.

The Oxfordshire Oesophageal and Stomach Organisation (OOSO)was set up in 2009 by a former oesophageal patient, Jackie Beaumont, to promote the treatment and care of persons suffering from oesophageal and/or stomach cancer and to provide support to those caring for such persons.

Oesophageal cancer is increasing faster than any cancer in the western world and together with stomach cancer kills more than 10,000 people each year in England.

There have been huge improvements in the treatment of oesophageal and stomach cancer in the last decade, but despite significant improvements in outcomes from these treatments, survival is still worse than many other cancers.

It takes a long time to recover from treatment for these cancers and OOSO plays a vital role in this. Their input is now an integral part of the care that the Churchill Hospital patients receive.

This page is for direct donations to our chosen charity for individuals to donate with the benefit of the gift aid facility.

We will also be holding a raffle to support the charity on the evening of the dinner.

Thank you to everyone who has given their support.

Rob Dennis
