*******************************Update: Owing to a problem with registration some months ago which was largely my fault, it was explained on 5 March that I wasn't able to run the race itself. I've donated on this page the equivalent of the (failed) registration fee, and ran alone on an Oxford treadmill instead on 7 March. My knee was a bit bothersome in the second half so I had to walk sometimes (the time was 2:48) but apart from that it went ok. Thank you everyone for your support. We've raised $100 USD for the Albert Einstein Institution and (after correcting for JustGiving fees and Gift Aid) £585 for QPSW.
*******************************
The race: Organized by London Marathon Limited, it'll take place on 14 March 2010 at Silverstone,
26 miles from my house. The length is half that of a (
26-mile) marathon. This is my first long race.
The cause: Nonviolent alternatives to war can be tricky - they need continued attention to work, and are still being refined. (Meanwhile, climate forecasts suggest that ever tougher times are coming. Are we prepared?) Two relevant organizations are:
- The Albert Einstein Institution, researching applied pacifist methods for
26 years and counting
-
QPSW, formerly known as the Friends Service Council, which won the Nobel Peace Prize
26 years after Einstein won his for Physics
The cash: There are two ways to give.
1. Cheques payable to The Albert Einstein Institution can be posted to: Mark Ebden, Wolfson College, Oxford, OX2 6UD, United Kingdom.
2. Or, click
Donate now to contribute to Quakers in Britain, of which QPSW is a department. 100% of the money I raise through this site will be allocated to the work of QPSW.
Please give what you can - and thank you. You may also like to
join in the race.
