Story
Please read a bit about the SSPCA below:
Established in 1839 to prevent cruelty to animals and promote kindness and humanity in their treatment, the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is Scotland's leading animal welfare charity. Today, our work is as necessary as ever.
Our dedicated Inspectorate responds to over 100,000 calls for help every year, provides advice and guidance to animal carers, advocates improved animal husbandry systems, rescues animals in distress and helps shape animal welfare alongside the Society's parliamentary body. The Scottish SPCA is a reporting agency for the enforcement of animal protection laws.
In 2007, Scottish SPCA animal rescue, rehoming and wildlife centres offered refuge, cared for and rehomed more than 12,000 injured, abused, neglected and orphaned pets, farm animals and wildlife.
The Society's Education Department provides a fully integrated programme in schools and works with the wider community to encourage positive and informed attitudes towards animals.
The Scottish SPCA receives no government or lottery funding and relies on public support to continue the vital role it performs protecting and improving animal welfare standards.
