Hola! So here’s my spiel of why you should donate...

is raising money for Headway Blackpool Wyre & Fylde

adidas Manchester Marathon 2025 · 27 April 2025 ·

Brain injury can challenge every aspect of your life – walking, talking, thinking and feeling and the losses can be severe and permanent. It can mean losing both the life you once lived and the person you once were. We’re a charity in Blackpool Wyre and Fylde who aims to provide information, support and social activities for people suffering from acquired brain injuries. We also aim to support carers, family and friends. Perhaps most importantly, we offer the chance to share experiences knowing that the group members understand some of the problems and difficulties that acquired brain injury brings.

Story

My mum went on a nice camping trip to Dorset, she felt dizzy and fell banging her head in August 2020. After going for a scan to check if all was okay suspecting a stroke they found out she had 2 brain aneurysms.

After a tonne of tests including getting a wire through her whole body into her brain 🤯 she decided on getting an operation on the larger aneurysm (Which had up to 13% chance of rupturing)

Getting a craniotomy operation in October 2021 cutting through the skull and fishing about her brain to clip it… again 🤯

After a 7 hour operation she came around ‘fine’ but sadly she had ALOT of complications the following day. Having a very bad reaction to the procedure including vaso spasm leading to a stroke, she was in this position for 5 days where she couldn’t speak, write or communicate in anyway. (Which I can definitely attest to with her response to ‘How are you feeling today’ as something to do with salt and pepper)

She still suffers from dysphasia (confusion, mixing up words, tiredness) and some short term memory loss.

During this period I was communicating with her as much as possible and hearing about the lack of support and help she was getting, on looking for any ways to support we came across Headway Blackpool.

She’s been going to Headway ever since, meeting a group of people who not only understand the extra difficulties she’s been having but also giving her a support network moving forward.

I myself have attended a meeting at Headway Blackpool and seen the work they are doing. Offering support and more importantly a space to meet and talk to people struggling with similar issues, support each other and know they arnt alone.

So yeah please donate, even if it’s £1 and I’ll try and survive running a marathon!

Thanks for coming to my ted talk

TL;DR

I love my mum and want to give back to a charity which supported her and supports many other people with brain injuries.
