Story
The lodge membership returns to fundraising form for one week, undertaking the mission of the Yorkshire Three Peaks.
The Yorkshire Three Peaks, comprising Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-Ghent, are a famous trio of high hills encircling and rising above the famous Ribblehead Viaduct, in the West Riding of Yorkshire, on the equally famous Settle-Carlisle railway line. It is intended to do the three peaks in three successive days!
The party undertaking this challenge comprises of Greg Rawlins, 56, the lodge’s current Master, myself, 31, Senior Warden, Geoff Hetherington, 67, Junior Warden, and Alan Stacey, 39. Hill-walking – or even just pavement walking – experience ranges from quite a bit to hardly anything at all.
The money raised from this will contribute to the aggregate total of as much as £12,000 that the Loyalty and Remembrance Lodge has been raising from various activities for the Province of West Kent and its 2026 Festival, a six-year fund raising effort with a £2.5M target that ends in April 2026, the funds raised by the Festival being channelled via the Masonic Charitable Foundation (MCF) for onward distribution for masonic and non-masonic charitable purposes. The MCF is the second biggest donor of funds to other registered charities after the National Lottery.
In short, this is a challenge that will not be as remotely easy as some may think, but we expect – and intend – to have a whole heap of fun.
NOTE: Due to the possibility of severely inclement weather, if all three peaks cannot be completed within our planned five-day sojourn in Yorkshire, a return visit will be undertaken to complete them at a later date. Updates to this effect will be added to this website and you can follow the Lodge’s exploits on our website at www.lodge5842.co.uk or on Facebook at https://facebook.com/westkent5842.
