Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On the 26th August 2023 we are climbing snowdon to raise money for Alder Hey Children’s Charity as part of Tommy Thanks Alder Hey.

Last year on the 15th July 2022 our beautiful boy Tommy was born weighing an amazing 8lbs 12oz. From a week old he started vomiting extreme amounts of milk. I seemed medical help from our local GP who said it was reflux. Understood a baby throwing up is normally suffering with reflux. So I was prescribed cow and gate thickening powder to put into his bottle to prevent the sickness. But this wasn’t working, I knew something wasn’t right. I tried to get another appointment and was told to try anti reflux milk. This still wasn’t working. I was trying to tell people he’s throwing up the whole bottle of milk and I felt like no one was listening to me. “ we will give you an appointment on Monday to see the dr”

Saturday 6th August we knew something wasn’t right Tommy was so weak and was still projectile vomiting. I said to Aaron I feel like I can feel his spine. We rang out of hours and they asked us about Tommy. They asked us to wake him up as he was asleep so we tried and tried but he wouldn’t wake up. An ambulance arrived and Tommy was rushed to the countess of Chester hospital. Tommy was weighed and he was below birth weight. On his first visit from the health visitor he went upto 9lbs 3oz when he arrived at hospital he went down to 8lbs 3oz. He looked so weak. He remained in the countess on fluids until he was transferred to alder hey with suspected pyloric stenosis.

We arrived at alder hey hospital and Tommy was took down for a scan where it was confirmed Tommy had pyloric stenosis and needed surgery.

Pyloric stenosis is a blockage in the stomach which was stopping his milk from going any further meaning he projectile vomited it all back up. Without surgery Tommy would have continued to starve. Alder Hey Childrens Hospital helped keep us relaxed and comfortable during our stay. They supported us with getting Tommy back feeding from dioralyte upto the milk. I have never been so scared to feed a baby before but the nurses were always there. We will always be forever grateful to Alder Hey Childrens Hospital without them our story could have been very different.

Thank you for ready our description of why Tommy was in hospital and please donate or even just sharing this page will help us give back to the hospital xx
