Story
Mohammed Abu Siraj’s Family: A Story of Loss, Displacement, and Hope
Mohammad Abu Siraj is a father and the sole provider for a family of nine. His eldest son is
15 years old and lives with significant mobility and communication difficulties. He requires
ongoing care, special medication, and essential hygiene supplies.
Mohammad has 4 daughters and 3 sons, the youngest daughter is less than a year , she
needs milk and diapers.
From the first day of the war, Mohammed and his family were forced to leave their home
because their area had become unsafe. Their home was later completely destroyed, and with
it, they lost everything they had built and owned.
Since the first month of the war, the family has been displaced repeatedly, moving from one
place to another in search of safety. For more than a year and a half, they have lived in tents,
enduring the cold and rain of winter and the extreme heat of summer.
Throughout this time, the family has faced severe shortages of food, clean water, medicine,
and other basic necessities. The children need food, clothing, milk, and diapers, while
Mohammed’s eldest son requires special medication and ongoing hygiene supplies because
of his condition.
During the war, Mohammed eldest son was injured when a nearby area was bombed. His
injury required a long period of treatment, adding another burden to a family already
struggling to survive.
Before the war, Mohammed worked hard to support his family. He tried several times to
establish small businesses that could provide a stable source of income. However, the
destruction caused by the war took away everything he had built. He lost his home, his
belongings, and more than $30,000 that he had invested and worked for over many years.
Today, the family has lost its main source of income and is living in extremely difficult
circumstances. Although Mohammed is employed in Gaza, he receives only a partial salary
equivalent to approximately $300 every 100 days. This amount is not enough to cover even a
small part of the family’s essential needs, especially with the high cost of food, water,
medicine, and basic supplies.
Mohammed’s family is not asking for luxury. They are asking for the opportunity to live with
dignity and provide their children with the necessities of life.
