Story
At the age of just 5 (2012), our youngest brother Charlie had to face his first gruelling battle with Leukaemia whilst also dealing with pneumonia. The odds were really not in his favour but due to his warrior-like strength and the incredible work from the NHS, Charlie made a phenomenal recovery after 4 long years of treatment. January 2022, after finally starting to think our lives were back to normal, we were told the unfortunate news that Charlie had relapsed with Leukaemia. This tragic news hurt our hearts but our inspirational brother still remained with a smile on his face despite knowing what was to come.
Fast forwarding to now, thankfully we are glad to say Charlie is on course to beat this horrible illness and finishes treatment by February 2024.
For most who don't know Charlie, he Is a strong, intelligent, funny cheeky chap who epitomises a typical boy but with a great heart. From day 1 as the youngest he has always found a way to irritate his older brothers, to the point where you can't help but laugh and we wouldn't have it any other way.
In admiration for Charlie for Septembers childhood cancer awareness month, we have decided to take part in the Worcester City run Half Marathon. This Is to raise money and say a huge thank you to 'The Children of Worcestershire Cancer Fund.' The Children of Worcestershire Cancer Fund is part of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Charity, and supports children from across Worcestershire receiving treatment at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. In relation to Charlie's treatment, this charity is ran by the same team that have looked after Charlie medically for the past 11 years!
Fundraising supports special events, projects and experiences that go above and beyond to core NHS provision. Over just the last 12 months funds have been used to support poorly children and their families in a variety of different ways. As an example, a difficult side effect of treatment for many children is to experience difficulty with walking and their fund has helped to provide wheelchairs and push chairs for patients who need them. They've also provided tickets for safari parks, vouchers for food & drink at the hospital and much more!
Thank you for reading this In advance and all donations no matter how big or small are greatly appreciated and will hopefully help towards others In getting the help they need.
