So....Thanks for taking the time to visit my Justgiving page.
How on earth did I get myself into this?
After taking up 'gentle' running to shed some of my 23 stone mass at the end of 2023 I managed to complete my first marathon (without stopping or walking) at Loch Ness in Septenber 2024. I felt this was a real achievement for me but little had I realised I was a glutton for punishment!
I thought that would be the end of my 'serious running' but having turned 51 I have decided I wanted to see what i could achieve whilst raising a little money for charity.
I decided this is the only time left in my life where I will be able to cope with the stresses of a 100k continuous run. It is a real challenge to myself both mentally and physically for which you just cannot hide.
I opted to choose the most scenic of the ultra marathons in this country and run through Dorset along the Jurassic Coastline in the official ultra-marathon alongside proper runners with proper gear!!! My thinking was the amazing scenery and cliff tops would see me through but I have since found out it is pretty much the toughest with a lot more uphill than downhill. Whoops!
I have enlisted the help of my good friend and colleague Andy to help with my training and drive the support van providing me with bananas, caffeine and his natural energy and positivity along the trail.
I hope the effort I undertake in my goal of completing 100k will motivate friends, family, customers, friends of friends and just about anyone else to donate whatever they can afford to help me raise money for pretty much the best run charity surrounding children's welfare in the country.
Those that have known me for over 2 years will also remember how this is the last thing they would ever have expected me to be able to do.
I also hope it may possibly help other people who have hit 'mid-life'' in not the best shape to think...Hmmm, if he can do it....
Many, many thanks for your support.
