Story
Running 42.195km ? That is one serious challenge.
But this is a cause worth training for.
Sport played a massive role in my university experience. I wasn't much of a runner but that is where I completed my refereeing course, started the Afro Caribbean Society football team and it's where I met many of my friends.
In fact one friend in particular was one I met at the refereeing course, Olisa, he was incredible at football and played for the uni first team and also was the number 10 for my ACS team.
Sadly, Olisa never graduated as we lost him to suicide in 2021. This is something that's stayed with me ever since. I am running this marathon in his memory and to make sure other students get the support they need with mental health struggles at university.
I’m raising funds for Healthy Minds, a University of Bristol programme that helps students improve their mental wellbeing through exercise and support. It offers a free 12-week plan with access to university sports facilities and a dedicated exercise mentor for 1:1 guidance.
Since launching in 2016, over 700 students have taken part, and in 100% of cases, participants have reported improved wellbeing. It’s a powerful reminder of how much difference the right support can make.
Donations help expand the programme and provide more students with this life-changing opportunity. Every km I run, and every pound you give, helps make that possible.
Honestly, I find running tough. The longest I’ve ever run is 10k, so taking on the full London marathon is a huge leap for me. I’ll be training hard over the next few months (and probably questioning my life choices on a few cold winter mornings). So if you fancy joining me for a run, even just a few miles, I’d really appreciate the company and motivation!
Thank you so much for your support🏃♂️
