Story

In October 2026, Alfie, Darren and Rob are taking on the challenge of the Weston Super Half Marathon to raise money for an incredible cause close all of Weston’s hearts – The Monkey Tree Charity.

It is set on providing a free, on loan wheelchair service to children & young adults with terminal/life limiting illnesses receiving treatment within the Bristol Royal Infirmary, the Bristol Children’s Hospital & The Teenage Cancer Trust Unit’

This cause is deeply moving, and the impact it has on families is something words can barely do justice. The charity is in memory of the incredible Evie.

Evie was 16yrs old and had just started college when she was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a large tumour was found hiding behind Evie’s heart, causing her swallowing problems and multiple blood clots. Evie spent most of her stay at the BRI in ITU and on the Teenage Cancer Trust unit, she passed away just three weeks after her diagnosis.

Due to the complications that the tumour had caused, Evie’s legs became very swollen, and Evie required a wheelchair to maintain what independence she had left. Unfortunately, the hospital did not have any self-propelled wheelchairs for Evie to use at this time, which on top of everything was beyond devastating to Evie.

Rob and Sarah bought Evie a wheelchair, they decorated it with Ivy and fairy lights, and the smile it put onto Evie’s face at such a horrific time was just beyond words. Having a wheelchair meant she could go to the bathroom by herself and to the café with her boyfriend/work colleagues and her family while she was still able.

Their last meal as a family with Evie was in the café in the Bristol Heart Institute where she wheeled herself too, we laughed all the way because she was not the best driver. Without the chair we would not have been able to make that last memory with her.’

A story like this are exactly why we’re taking on 13.1 miles. It won’t be easy – there will be early mornings, long runs, and tired legs but it’s nothing compared to what families like Evie’s go through.

We’d be incredibly grateful for any support, whether that’s a donation, sharing our page, or simply cheering us on. Every pound raised will help provide comfort, independence, and precious moments for families who need it most.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us.
