Story
Dear Friends,
I may or may not have bored you to tears with talk of bicycles recently. Well, lift off is fast approaching.
On 20th June I’m taking part in ‘Chase The Sun’ - a coast to coast endurance bike ride of 333 kms in one day. Cue nervous laughter.
The idea is that you start at dawn on a beach in Kent and you only complete the challenge if you reach Weston-Super-Mare’s seafront before sunset. That’s up to 15 hours of peddling and most certainly a red-raw, saddle-saw rump.
Having taken up cycling only a few months ago this all now feels quite daunting. I intend to make a short film about the experience, no doubt full of expletives, which I’ll certainly share with you all.
Now, the request for your kind support.
The reason myself and a few local pals are doing this challenge is heartbreakingly sad. Just a few years ago our team mate Tanguy endured the most horrendous experience imaginable as his young son Max died from a brain tumour. Tanguy has been raising funds for The Brain Tumour Charity that cared for Max ever since. Every penny raised goes towards ground breaking research and focused support to help others suffering from this cruel affliction.
333 kms is an unpleasantly long distance and race day will be completely uncharted territory for us all. They say the body will consume between 8,000 – 10,000 calories to reach the finish line. That’s a lot of bananas and jam sandwiches.
We may only be a team of 12 mates. Some of us beginners. But we ride for our friend Tanguy and in memory of beautiful Max.
Friends - please support The Brain Tumour Charity by sponsoring our adventure. Every pound will make a difference.
Love and Lycra,
Aidan x
