Story

Friday 10th May 2024 - A cycling challenge with a difference. And a purpose.

An epic prison-to-prison bike ride through the rolling Surrey Hills and over the iconic Box Hill for 125km!

Sheriff Bronek Masojada is leading a team riding THE GREAT ESCAPE in support of the charity Onwards & Upwards. His Posse comprises past Sheriff Neil Redcliffe, Senior Warden of the Worshipful Company of Insurers Karl Jarvis, and two other Company members, Neil Hodkin and Alan Punter.

Onwards & Upwards was Founded to break the cycle of reoffending, they create sustainable social ventures to train, mentor and employ ex-offenders and build them into loved and respected brands.

XO Bikes is their first venture. XO Bikes trains people who have recently left prison to become qualified bike mechanics, give them the support to build stable foundations for their life ahead, and guide them towards meaningful employment.

THE GREAT ESCAPE aims to give people the confidence to challenge their preconceptions as well as their organisations' for how to give ex-offenders the means to break the cycle of repeat offending and build a positive and productive life on the outside.

We create initiatives providing employment to ex-offenders, the first of which is XO Bikes. We provide training inside, employment outside & pastoral support on all sides. Over 400 studies show that employment is the single most important factor in reducing reoffending rates.
