On Sunday, 8 September 2024, I’ll be running the Great North Run half marathon to raise funds for The Tom Henson Charity. It will be a challenge as my last half marathon was many years ago and I’m certainly less fit than I used to be! These days my body is used to dog walks and the odd 5k jog, not 13.1 miles!

The Tom Henson Charity is a local cause and they need funds so they can continue to provide and maintain public access defibrillators.

These devices really can save the life of anyone suffering a sudden cardiac arrest. There are approximately 60,000 out of hospital cardiac arrests in the UK each year and less than one in ten people will survive. Having a defibrillator nearby could help to change this. The cost of the actual defibrillator is not the only major expense. Replacing the batteries is also very costly but absolutely necessary.
