Alexi (Alex’s) fundraiser for Alcohol Change UK

London Landmarks Half Marathon 2025 · 6 April 2025 ·
Myself and a close friend Michael are running the London Landmarks Half Marathon in April 2025 for Alcohol Change UK.
We have decided to raise money for Alcohol Change as my own family, as with many other families has been affected hugely by alcohol. My dad, (who many of you will know) Raj was a loving, hardworking and caring man who sadly passed away in December 2018.
He also battled with alcohol addiction for much of his later life and ultimately his drinking, damaged his closest relationships and cut his life short. What started as social drinking evolved as the way to cope with life’s challenges and negatively impacted his mental health. If, like many others he had accessed support earlier for his drinking, things may have been different.
We would like to support Alcohol Change UK to reduce alcohol harm, build awareness of safer drinking and support others to change their relationship with alcohol for the better. This could enable people to have access to professional support for when drinking may become a problem. Hopefully, the money raised can help other people like Raj, before it becomes too late.
About Alcohol Change UK
We are Alcohol Change UK. We work for a society that is free from the harm caused by alcohol.
We are not anti-alcohol; we are for alcohol change. We are for a future in which people drink as a conscious choice, not a default; where the issues which lead to alcohol problems like poverty, mental health issues, homelessness are addressed; where those of us who drink too much, and our loved ones, have access to high-quality support whenever we need it, without shame or stigma.
How your donations can help:
* A donation of £20 could support around 20 people reduce their drinking through Dry January®.
* £30 could help us develop and deliver more training for front line workers and improve support for dependent drinkers.
* £40 could cover the costs of supporting 16 people for six months to reduce their drinking through our Try Dry® app.
