Story
We are the WhyWeRun Class of 2026.
A unique 250km ultra running event. Not a race, but an event with a greater purpose: runners run for themselves, and for something much bigger than themselves too - a shared goal not only to complete this mammoth distance together, but also to raise crucial funds for mental health charity, bigmoose.
In May 2026, I suffered my first major bout of severe depression in my life. I am privileged and fortunate to have support around me, in addition to being able to access/afford my own therapy and plus receiving private healthcare coverage (including mental health) from my work. Very few people have those privileges, but everyone should access to therapy and support if they need help. Without that help, my life could look very different right now.
Immediately I wanted to raise money for a mental health charity and do something I have never done before. As a keen marathon runner, I looked into doing an ultramarathon for charity and WhyWeRun provides exactly what I was after - running 250km over 5 days is an individual challenge far greater than anything I’ve done before whilst doing it for a purpose far greater than myself, to give others a chance to save their lives.
Any amount donated, whether £1, £10 or £100, goes to helping fund therapy for those who cannot afford it and desperately need it. Every £100 funds one session of therapy, and every £500 funds a full course of therapy for someone. Your support will help save lives, as the work of WhyWeRun and bigmoose have done so far and will continue to do.
