Sheffield Half Marathon 2024 · 7 April 2024 ·

Samaritans is available 24 hours a day to provide confidential, non-judgmental, emotional support to anyone experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those which may lead to suicide. The Sheffield branch receives over 30,000 calls a year - by phone, e-mail or visit - and is entirely reliant on voluntary support

Story

As a Samaritans volunteer at Sheffield branch, I see and hear a lot of the need for the Samaritans service. We offer a non-judgemental space for people to talk, work through their problems, and make their own decisions on their own terms. Sometimes that decision will be around whether they want to take their own life, and we're there to listen at those times too, when people may feel at their most alone and vulnerable

As any charity, we have to raise funds to support ourselves: we need to keep the lights on, run the phonelines, and train new volunteers to keep the good work going! So it seemed fitting to run the Sheffield Half Marathon to raise money for Sheffield Samaritans: it's going to be hard work but it's all well worth it! With a target of £1000, so much incredible work can be done, so please give anything you can towards this amazing charity - you can quite literally save a life

If you ever find you're struggling with anything in life and need to contact Samaritans for a friendly and non-judgemental listening ear please reach out: the phone number is 116 123 and the email address is jo@samaritans.org
