Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My name is Alfie and I am 8 years old. My passion for steam trains began when I was two years old. Since this time, I have become a regular visitor to the Severn Valley Railway even becoming a Shareholder in 2019 with huge thanks to my Grandma.

The Severn Valley Railway is my happy place. Never am I more at home than standing on the station platform waiting for my favourite loco, or on a footplate or in a diesel cab admiring the engineering and chatting to the wonderful SVR drivers, smelling the steam or listening to the thrash of an engine.

When I heard about the latest campaign by the Severn Valley Railway to raise £1.5 million for its Survival Fund, I just knew I had to do something to help. The Severn Valley Railway is a magical place. The staff, mostly volunteers, work tirelessly not only to create memorable visitor experiences, but behind the scenes also restoring these beautiful engines and providing apprenticeships to the next generation of engineers. I want people to be able to continue to enjoy this wonderful railway.

It was my turn to give something back.

So, I decided to set myself a ‘Footplate Challenge’. The idea being that I would try to have my photograph taken on as many footplates, including diesel cabs, as possible during 2023. As well as the SVR home fleet, I hope to include other guest engines and to visit other heritage railways.

Please help me by donating whatever you can to help this wonderful and important charity.

About the charity

Despite the relaxation of Covid restrictions, our trains, cafes and shops are running at reduced capacity and as a consequence, we face a continued loss of income. WE NEED YOUR GENEROUS SUPPORT TO ENABLE FUTURE GENERATIONS TO ENJOY THIS WONDERFUL HERITAGE RAILWAY.
