Story
Last summer I got it into my head that it would be fun to try to learn how to joggle (running and juggling at the same time). Having given myself the summer and part of the autumn term to get the hang of it, last November I decided to put this new skill to use (skill might be a bit optimistic) to raise some money for people with sight loss through the charity Guide Dogs. Having been a volunteer puppy raiser for Guide Dogs for the last year (something of a surprising move for me given that I had never been that keen on dogs), I have been completely won over to doing what I can to raise money for this excellent charity, which does so much to help people with sight loss.
Since the lifetime cost of a Guide Dog is currently £102,000, my challenge is to joggle 102km to represent and raise awareness of this number. Not one continuous 102km joggle (thankfully!), but 5k at a time, over the course of 21 parkruns. So since last November I have been joggling at parkruns every week (with a month off in December when I sprained my ankle!).
At the time of writing I am getting quite close to the end of the challenge. I would love to say that I have perfected joggling through all of this, but the truth is I still drop the juggling balls multiple times each week, it is hard work, and I often feel like some sort of (bad) circus act. However, I have definitely seen improvement and my joggling parkrun time is gradually coming down. Fellow parkrunners have been a wonderful support and so far no one (apart from me) has been injured in the course of this challenge (tripping people up has been my greatest fear in this challenge!)
I have been posting regular updates about how it is going on my blog, so check that out for more information 😀
