In 2022 and 2023 IDEALS brought me on Limb Reconstruction missions to Gaza, where they have been going regularly since 2009. I hope to travel again soon.
The need for limb reconstruction then was significant, now it is huge. Throughout the recent war, IDEALS have had Intensivists, Anaesthetists, Public Health and Plastic and Orthopaedics Surgeons on the ground.
In August, with a group of others, I'll cycle from Manchester to London, over three days, to raise funds for these vital missions. Please donate anything you can. The charity is extremely efficient almost entirely staffed by volunteers so 90% of funds go directly to caring for the wounded, providing surgical equipment and working with the local surgeons.
A little on the charity:
IDEALS, International Disaster & Emergency Aid with Long-term Support, have been travelling to emergency and disaster zones to provide orthopaedic and limb reconstruction care since 2000. Surgical teams have worked in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Sri-Lanka, Pakistan, Lebanon and have had a longstanding presence in Gaza.
