Story
I’m running 10K for my big sister, Lauren 💚
On 20 June 2027, I’ll be taking on my first ever 10K race to raise money for FND Research Group, a charity that is now incredibly close to my heart.
My big sister, Lauren, was recently diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). Before Lauren’s diagnosis, FND was something I and my family knew very little about. Like many people, I had never even heard of it. Seeing someone I love have to navigate life with a condition that is still so misunderstood has made me realise just how important awareness, understanding and research are. Especially when people decide to reach for their phone to video someone in one of their most vulnerable moments.
So I decided to do something completely outside my comfort zone and run 10K to raise money for FND Research Group. The problem? I am definitely not a runner.
This is going to be a huge challenge for me. I’m starting from the very beginning and will be spending the next months training, building up my fitness and trying to convince my legs that running 10K was, in fact, a good idea!
There will undoubtedly be difficult days, but having Lauren as my motivation will keep me going. She has no choice to go through the difficulties, and she manages with the biggest smile on her face.
I’m hoping to raise as much as I can to support FND Research Group and their work towards better understanding FND through research.
If you can donate, no matter how much, I would be incredibly grateful. If you can’t donate, sharing my fundraising page would mean just as much. Awareness is my main goal.
Your donation will go directly to the FND Research Group to help carry out clinical research on FND, raise awareness of the condition among health professionals. Areas it may support include maintaining high-quality self-help materials for patients such as the “neurosymptoms FND guide” at www.neurosymptoms.org and connecting patients to a global research database.
Every donation and every share will help me get one step closer to that finish line — and help support a cause that means so much to my family.
For Lauren 💚 For FND awareness 🧡And for everyone living with FND 💙
