Story
I’m cycling 1,000 km in January to raise money for West Lothian Riding for the Disabled (RDA).
Why?
West Lothian RDA, where I volunteer, only operates from April to October because it doesn’t have indoor facilities. This means it has no income during the winter, when the cost of looking after the horses and ponies tends to be highest.
I’d really appreciate anything you can spare to help the group get through the winter months. From spring to autumn, around 50 riders a week benefit from its therapeutic riding and stable management sessions.
To give you an idea of the costs involved:
• £10 covers six sachets of pain relief
• £15 buys 1/3 of a bale of hay, their main food source
• £25 buys a share of vitamins and supplements
• £30 buys 2/3 of a bale of hay
• £50 buys a full bale, delivered (they normally eat three a week until late spring)
About West Lothian RDA
West Lothian RDA provides therapeutic riding and stable management sessions for adults and children with various disabilities. It welcomes people of all ages and abilities, including those with physical and learning disabilities, sensory impairments, long-term health conditions, and neurodiversities.
The sessions are supported by around 100 volunteers. In the winter, a small team of dedicated volunteers give up their time to look after the herd of nine each day.
