Story
From the age of 8, I had my nan come and live with with me and my family, who suffered with Alzheimer's disease and was completely immobile. I never thought at a young age I would be able to take on responsibilities to help support my nan. I was able to do so with the support of young carers, who provided me with the opportunity to connect with other young people who were experiencing the same thing at a young age. As well as allowing me to go out and undergo different activities that I was unable to do.
This April I am taking on the London Landmarks Half Marathon for Be Free Young Carers. As a non-runner I am going to challenge myself in representation of all the young carers who are facing challenges daily. This will be a huge accomplishment to myself and allow me to give back to a charity that gave me an opportunity to enjoy my childhood. By completing this marathon and raising money I will be enabling them to do the same for more young people.
They are the only charity in Oxfordshire devoted to improving young carers’ well-being and opportunities, through the provision of recreational, emotional and social support.
Together we can create a brighter future for young carers.
