Story

A Tribute to Our Dad

Our wonderful Dad, Robert, (Bob) sadly passed away on 23rd September 2026, aged 86.

Dad’s lifelong passion was steam trains, and in particular, the Watercress Line. Whenever you asked him where he would like to go, the answer was always the same — the Watercress Line!

His love of steam trains began with his very first job as a porter at Haslemere station. From that moment, his passion never left him. He was never happier than when he was on or near a steam train, reading about them or watching his much-loved DVDs, of which he had hundreds.

The Watercress Line was Dad’s happy place. It brought him so much joy throughout his life, and we hope in near future celebrate his memory by taking a ride along the line in honour of his lifelong passion. Date to be arranged.

In place of floral tributes, we invite you to make a donation to the Watercress Line Heritage Railway Trust to help preserve and operate this much-loved 10-mile heritage railway between Alresford and Alton in Hampshire.

By supporting the Watercress Line, you will be helping to keep alive the steam railway heritage that meant so much to Dad.

Forever loved, forever remembered.
