I'm trekking the Sahara Desert for Derian House Childrens Hospice!

Sahara Desert Trek for Derian House · 11 November 2026

Join us for our FIRST EVER overseas trek, through the ever-changing landscape of the iconic Sahara Desert, climbing to the top of the massive Chigaga Dunes, where we will witness the beautiful desert sun-rise. Lets conquer this together!

Story

In November 2026, I will taking on the challenge of trekking the Sahara Desert to raise essential funds for Derian House Children's Hospice.

My family are one of many that are supported by Derian House and we would be utterly lost without their care. The Sahara Trek is my chance to give something back and have an amazing adventure along the way (although I'm not sure how I feel about the scorpions!)

Our beautiful daughter Lucy was born having seizures and was later diagnosed with a rare condition called KCNQ2, which is classed as an epileptic encephalopathy. Lucy has incredibly complex needs and requires 24 hour care. She has been through a lot in her short lifetime but she's a fighter and we're extremely proud of our little warrior.

However, nothing prepares you for being thrown into the world of complex disabilities. We have to navigate so many practical and emotional struggles, all while trying to maintain family life for Lucy and her brothers. It is utterly exhausting and can feel incredibly lonely.

BUT, this is where Derian House Children's Hospice and their amazing team come to the rescue. And what an incredible place it is! They have the most exception team and care for the whole family with so much love and understanding. And wow, what a relief it is to be understood.

Derian House offers care in so many ways. From the sensory rooms and the hydrotherapy, to the support groups and the play sessions, to the end of life care and medical attention.

Lucy is fortunate to have regular respite care and this provides us with much needed breathing space. She always has so much fun and loves her stays there. Her winning smile in the photos we get back sum the place up so beautifully.

Lucy is the reason I am going to trek up and down the sand dunes.....in the scorching heat, with scorpions and camels for company, and with questionable toileting options (I'm not adverse to a wild wee but I'm not sure what I think about doing it in the middle of the Sahara!).

I am grateful for any donations towards this amazing charity. Lets show our support to the fabulous Derian House's Children's Hospice and keep smiles like Lucy's going.
