Jane, my lovely friend from Dental School , sadly lost a long battle with mental health problems last March. She loved running but unfortunately was limited by injuries which prevented her carrying on. She encouraged me to run in Uni and we completed The Great North Run together while studying ( although she was twice as fast as me 🤔).

I entered the ballot for The London Marathon early last year and was successful in gaining a place, so in Jane's memory, I have decided to raise money for the charity she supported. Any donations would be gratefully received and will spur me on over the 26 miles. I've got the attention span of a fly and am not the keenest runner so it's not going to an easy race for me.

Out of the Blues mission is to support cutting edge research into mood disorders with the goal of increasing understanding of, and improving treatment for, these conditions thus improving the lives of patients and their families.

Your donation will help to improve the lives of patients and develop our research teams in many ways:

1. Improving sleep and cognition in bipolar

2. New treatment option for depression

3. A CALMing App for young people with bipolar

The objective of the charity is to facilitate and enhance research into Mood Disorders by researchers based in the North of England. Funding to teams of researchers can include individuals with other affiliations but must include at least one based within Newcastle University. The research can be of any nature as long as it meets the vision and values of the Charity.
