We are Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity. We stop at nothing to help give seriously ill children childhoods that are fuller, funner and longer. Because we believe no childhood should be lost to illness.

Story

Anna was transferred from St Mary's Hospital to Great Ormond Street for a surgical procedure known as a "Kasai procedure", which if successful, slows down liver degeneration and delays the need for a liver transplant, which was vital in 1993 when paediatric liver transplants were relative new although fast developing, and the longer a transplant could be delayed, the better the potential success rate.

Anna was transferred at the age of exactly 8 weeks old, which was the last day that such a procedure can be undertaken due to the difficulty in firmly diagnosing Anna's condition.

The surgery was a success; it was so successful that when Anna had her liver transplant almost 2 years later, the transplant surgeon said it was the best Kasai procedure he has ever seen, and aided their surgery considerably.
