Story
Joshua is my youngest son. He was born on 25th April 2016 and was a healthy, content, beautiful, perfect baby boy. He was our 3rd son and we were looking forward to our first Christmas together later that year. On the 18th December 2016, Joshua was rushed to Preston Hospital as he was poorly and couldn't open his eye. At first medical staff did not know what was wrong. After several hours he was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis. He was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit at Manchester Children's Hospital. Three days later Joshua died, aged 7 months and 26 days. Our world was shattered. We were left in utter devastation and turmoil and I found solace in running.
Joshua would've been 10 years old this year, the day before the London Marathon. I am running to remember him and honour his memory by raising money for the Spencer Dayman Meningitis Research charity.
Spencer Dayman Meningitis Research was founded by Steve Dayman, Spencer's father. Spencer died 44 years ago and Steve has worked tirelessly to provide funding for research into prevention, raising awareness and supporting those affected by meningitis. The current meningitis vaccinations on the NHS are thanks to the work Steve has spearheaded and he was awarded an MBE. Spencer Dayman Meningitis Research are funding a number of preventative research projects at the University of Bristol including the development of a rapid diagnostic testing kit to diagnose meningitis, sepsis and other associated diseases, which will lead to prompt treatment and hopefully more favourable outcomes.
Anything you wish to give is greatly appreciated.
My fundraising target is set at £2504 as this is Joshua's birthday.
