Story

Thank you very much for reading our JustGiving page. “Sole Mates” are taking on the St Catherine’s 17-mile Midnight Walk on 6th June & we would like to seek your sponsorship, however small it may be.

St Catherine’s, like many hospices across the UK, rely on charitable donations but with the current economic climate many of them are receiving significantly lower donations although their needs remain just as high.

St Catherine’s is close to all our hearts and here are our stories:

St Catherine’s was invaluable to Sara and her husband, Paul, when he was losing his life to bowel cancer in March ‘21. It was during the time when many hospitals were turning away loved ones due the pandemic lockdown but St Catherine’s was there for them both and provided a caring & safe space for Paul & Sara to spend their precious last days & hours together in the peace & tranquility of his own room.

St Catherine’s cared for Jo’s step-dad, Colin, when he was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer back in 2005. The hospice staff were incredibly kind & supportive during a very difficult time.

Ali lost her grandad Bernard to cancer 21 years ago and St Catherine’s treated him with love & dignity when he stayed there before he passed. She also lost her best friend Lynn 7 years ago and she too was given patience & amazing care by everyone at St Catherine’s.

St Catherine’s was truly incredible during Sharon’s Nan’s final days. They cared for her with such compassion, dignity and kindness – easing her pain and surrounding her with peace and love right until the end. They also supported Sharon’s family with patience, understanding & strength when they needed it most.

Any sponsorship you can give will mean the world to us and it will make a direct difference to families facing terminal illness. All hospices are totally invaluable and their staff are absolutely amazing; together, let’s make sure they can continue their vital work.

Thank you SO much.

Love, Sara, Jo, Ali, Sharon & Anne xx
