UPDATE

After re-reading the below, and after a few people making me aware, I realise it can sound as if I have a major problem with alcohol. I just wanted to let people know I do not. I suppose I wrote the below assuming that everyone who read it would know me very well, so just to clarify...

It is no laughing matter for those who do have these struggles, but I do not wake up in the morning and need alcohol to survive the day. I am talking more about a boozy Friday night that ruins my productivity for the rest of the weekend, as an example.

This conscious effort is just about making good life choices for my physical and mental health and raising some money for a good cause at the same time.

So please kindly read the below with the above in mind :)

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Some of you are aware of the journey I’ve been through in my life, and throughout that time, I’ve always had a complicated relationship with alcohol - either through my own experiences or those of people close to me.

It’s something deeply ingrained in our culture, yet we often overlook the true impact it has on us. Whether it’s the headache the next day, the lingering brain fog that lasts for days, the self-loathing for 'drinking again', the regret of time wasted being hungover, the 'hang-xiety'—that anxiety over what you might have said or done, the workweek you’ve disrupted by being less productive, or the fear that lingers as you watch loved ones prioritise alcohol over their health.

For those of you who know me well, you’ll be aware that I’ve struggled with mental health. While it doesn’t define me, it’s always present, and I can’t help but wonder how much of it has been fuelled by alcohol and its effects.

That’s why I’ve decided it’s time to break the cycle. I want to prove to myself that I can be happy without relying on this socially accepted drink. It will take commitment and consistency, and it won’t be easy, as much of my social life has revolved around pubs or enjoying a glass of wine with dinner.

To help keep me motivated, I’ve set two goals for myself. The first is to make it to the end of this year sober. If I reach that milestone, I’ll be asking for your support once again - let’s see if I make it! My second goal is to stay alcohol-free until my 30th birthday on 5th July 2025. Who knows, by then, it might just become a permanent lifestyle change. These markers will help me stay focused and knowing you’re behind me will give me the extra strength I need to get there.

I’ve set a fundraising goal of £500 for Alcohol Change UK, but of course, the sky’s the limit! Every donation will help fund their incredible work supporting people through their own sobriety journeys - whether it’s for events like 'Dry January' or more long-term recovery.

So, I’m reaching out to my friends, family, and colleagues in the hope that you can support me through this challenge and contribute to this amazing cause.

Thank you all in advance!
