Story
This September, I’ll be cycling from London to Paris - 190 miles and 8,400ft of climbing over 3 days - to raise funds for Furnishing Futures.
If you know me, you’ll know this is well outside my comfort zone. I’ve always preferred walking or running over anything involving wheels… and I haven’t properly cycled since I was 13 years old (!). So yes - this will be a challenge.
I’ll be starting my training during Ramadan, which will test my discipline. I’ve already bought all the flashy cycling gear, so there’s no backing out now...
Why am I doing this? Because I’ve seen first-hand the impact of Furnishing Futures. After volunteering with them last March, I learnt how they transform empty social housing into fully furnished, thoughtfully designed homes for women & children fleeing domestic abuse - an area often overlooked. Rehousing someone is only part of the story; making it feel safe, dignified and like "home" is what truly helps families begin again.
Furnishing Futures create 'healing homes' using as-new furniture from the interiors industry that would otherwise go to waste!
I’m aiming to raise £2,000 - enough to fund essential items for a family starting again.
To give you an idea of what your donation could help provide:
• £25 – Comfort Starter: towels, bedding or everyday essentials to help make a space feel like home
• £50 – Bundle of Love: a wellbeing kit for a woman beginning again
• £100 – Baby & Children’s Bundle: nappies, toiletries, warm blankets
• £150 – Kitchen Essentials Bundle: kettle, toaster, microwave and more
• £300 – Full Home Bundle: essential items to set up a safe, functional home
I know these are hard times, so any contribution - whatever feels manageable - would mean a lot. If you’re able to donate, you won’t just be sponsoring a bike ride; you’ll be helping turn an empty space into a safe, healing home for a family starting over.
If you’re a UK taxpayer, please consider adding Gift Aid at no extra cost.
Thank you so much for your support!!
