Story
I promised Beth on her 5th birthday that I would do whatever I could to give her a brighter future. It was 2 years before the lab experiment that proved Rett syndrome was reversal which gave families hope that one day Rett syndrome would be cured.
That was nearly 20 years ago. Beth turns 25 on March 17th. I now have 2 girls with Rett. Amber is officially my step-daughter but she's most definitely my daughter and she will celebrate her 30th birthday on September 25th.
They have both been through so much during their lives, epilepsy, scoliosis, loss of both walking and the ability to even stand, the list goes on. Despite this, they are the lucky ones, they are still alive when so many children are not.
This year I'm setting up one fundraising page and I'm going to add challenges throughout the year. I will begin with the London Winter Walk on January 25th, a 26 mile trek around the capital and have committed to run my first Ultra in June. The Lake District Ultra is 100km and a whole new challenge for me. The training on it's own is a challenge in itself.
I have now personally raised over £250,000 since 2002. Many of you sponsoring me will have been on my pages multiple times over the years. I couldn't have done any of it without the enormous amount of help from hundreds of people. I will always be truly grateful to every single one of you.
The support you've given me, Amber, Beth and everyone living with this horrible condition has been immense and means absolutely everything.
