Story
The Barclays banking team in South Wales are taking on the task of walking 25km along the historic Brecon Monmouthshire canal to raise money for Believe Organ Donor Support.
Charity founder, Anna-Louise Bates, who will be joining the team on their walk, established the charity in memory of her late husband, Stuart and her son, Fraser (Bear) Bates who tragically lost their lives after being struck by a car whilst walking home from a school Christmas concert in December of 2015.
Anna-Louise made an incredibly brave decision to donate Fraser’s organ and tissue, which went on to save the lives of four critically ill people!
The charity’s mission is to educate and help spread the word on organ donation, support those people involved, and break down the taboo around organ donation to get people talking.
The funds raised from the canal walk will go toward a very special project: the Believe Memorial Garden.
Believe aim to provide a space of remembrance and sanctity in honour of those who have donated organs, for loved ones to reflect and remember. This garden is not just for those who have lost a family member, but also for live donors. This garden will have features throughout, where you can learn new facts about organ donation, see Welsh landmarks and includes statues of animals symbolising transplant centres around the UK.
A place to visit in remembrance and in honour of those who have donated and given the gift of life.
