On Thursday 19th March, I’ll be doing something that is very far outside my comfort zone…

I’m taking part in the Big Sleep Out at Peterborough Cathedral, raising money for Light Project Peterborough and Peterborough Cathedral.

Now, let me be honest. I really dislike being cold. I am fairly naff at camping, love a fluffy warm blanket. The idea of sleeping cold with just the basics fills me with a healthy amount of trepidation! This is not my natural habitat.

But let's do it!

I’m doing it because Light Project Peterborough is the Bishop Debbie's Charity for 2026 and because it is so much more than a “homeless charity.”

Through The Garden House, outreach work, health support, advocacy, and partnership across the city, they walk alongside people who are facing homelessness, addiction, mental health struggles, isolation and deep disadvantage. It’s practical help, yes of course but it’s also dignity, welcome and what I can only describe as visible love.

If you’ve ever had the privilege of stepping inside and seeing that love in action, you won’t need me to explain why this matters.

One uncomfortable, cold night for me is nothing and a bit of lost sleep and shivering is worth it if it helps raise awareness and vital funds.

I would love to raise £500. That feels stretching but possible with your help. Every donation, however small, genuinely makes a difference.
