I am running the Great North Run in memory of my lovely sister, Sallie, sadly passed away from cancer last October. Her last few days she spent at Ashgate Hospice on the outskirts of Chesterfield, where she was well looked after by the kind, compassionate and professional people at the hospice.

I had never visited a hospice before, and so I did not have an appreciation of just how fantastic they are until visiting my sister. The care and attention my sister received during her stay at Ashgate Hospice was quite simply amazing and heart touching. I am so pleased my sister was able to spend her last few moments surrounded by the wonderful people at Ashgate Hospice.

As a way of supporting the people who supported my sister during her difficult moments, I am running the Great North Run to raise money to help Ashgate Hospice continue helping people during their last moments on this earth.

Please, please spare whatever you can to help Ashgate Hospice continue offering palliative care to people in need.
