Story

OH, what’s occurring?

In May 2026 I’ll be running the Barry Island 10K to raise money for Guide Dogs Cymru, a charity that means a huge amount to me and my partner George.

In May 2025, George was matched with his guide dog Eddy through Guide Dogs Cymru. Since then, Eddy has brought a real bit of magic into our lives. Watching their partnership grow over the past year has been incredible, and it’s shown me first-hand just how special the work Guide Dogs do really is.

Guide Dogs don’t just train incredible dogs like Eddy, they provide life-changing services for people living with sight loss across the UK, including mobility training, buddy dogs, education support and sighted guide services.

Every day, 250 more people join the 2 million already living with sight loss, and that number is expected to double by 2050. That’s why their work is more important than ever.

So I thought the best way to say thank you was to do something slightly out of character… run a 10K around Barry Island.

Now, anyone who knows me will know that not that long ago running 10K would have sounded absolutely ridiculous. But somehow here we are. Less Nessa on the omelettes and more running trainers… who even am I?

If you’re able to donate, it would mean a lot and it will go towards helping Guide Dogs continue their amazing work.

Your support could help fund things like:

• £29 – an hour of training for a guide dog

• £141 – a starter kit for a new guide dog partnership

• £251 – specialist equipment to help a child develop fine motor skills

Thank you so much for supporting such an incredible charity, and for helping create more partnerships like George and Eddy’s.
