We fundraise for families & sick babies to give them practical & emotional support.

Story

On Sunday 3rd September 2023 I'll be completing a tandem skydive from 10,000ft in the aid of SSNAP (Support for the Sick Newborn and their Parents). They support the Neonatal Care Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford which cares for the most poorly premature babies from across the Thames Valley and beyond.

We were very fortunate to have their help following the birth of twin boys in 2018. When they were just 36 hours old one of our sons became critically ill and had to be transferred to the JR to have life saving surgery whilst his twin brother and I had to remain admitted at the hospital where they had been born.

SSNAP enabled our very poorly boy to have his Daddy there with him at the JR every second of every day (and night!) by providing a room to stay in right next to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Almost a week passed before we were all reunited and thanks to SSNAP we were then all able to live together as a family right there at the JR until he could be discharged from NICU.

We will be forever grateful to SSNAP for everything; from the boys lovely little first bears, woollen hats, the coffee and cake, their loving care and of course our 'first family home'!

When newborn babies need specialist, often lifesaving, medical care it can be a traumatic time for parents. SSNAP are there to support families, fund equipment and enable research, they couldn't do this without the support of people who fundraise for them. Please help me to help them carry on with their amazing work!

In the UK, 1 in 10 babies need specialist care at birth. SSNAP supports sick & premature babies and their families in the Newborn Care Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital. Imagine your newborn baby needing specialist care at birth. Instead of those very special days getting to know your baby as a family, you’re catapulted into an unfamiliar world of incubators, wires, medical tests and interventions. While your baby has specialist treatment, we provide emotional and practical support to help you through the trauma & upheaval. We’re there to help families cope, and provide state-of-the-art medical equipment and nursing expertise that could save babies lives.
