Help ‘’Team Fairplay’’ raise £5,000 to continue providing much needed support to Children and young people with disabilities and their families throughout North Derbyshire!

Story

Hey everyone – thank you for taking your time to read my plea : )

I feel very honoured to be able to say that I am part of the Fairplay team working as the HR Officer. I witness on a daily basis the outstanding work that goes on. I know the staff team well and having worked within the health and social care sector for some years I can hand on heart say that the care given by our staff is exceptional.

At Fairplay we support children and young people with disabilities and complex health needs across North Derbyshire.

We offer a wide range of services to meet the needs of families, including parent support groups and sibling activity groups.

Our Home Based Support group provide a service for children with complex health care needs that may be life-threatening or life-limiting. We provide a child-centred flexible service that meets the needs of the child and their family and provide care both in the homes of the children, and once a month at our centre in Chesterfield.

Fairplay gives families the support that they need and gives the children the opportunity to take part in positive experiences that make a real difference to their lives. We enable parents to have valuable respite including 24-hour care, and we give children and young people the opportunity to develop a wide range of life skills.

This years sponsored hike is going to be particularly challenging and extremely emotional as we make a special dedication to Lucy Hardwick. Lucy was a young girl who attended our home-based support group who sadly passed away in August 2024. Lucy was an amazing young girl who’s smile and laughter lit up the room. Lucy was cheeky, and always cheerful and adored anything that meant she got messy! Lucy loved being with her friends in the home-based group and listening to Little Mix. Lucy was a massive fan of Halloween and would never miss an opportunity to watch Trolls! We will wear our pink and purple t-shirts this year with pride as we remember Lucy and aim to raise much needed funds for Lucy and her Fairplay friends.

This year’s route will take in 7 Wainwrights: Dale Head, Hindscarth, Robinson, Rannerdale Knotts, Grasmoor, Wandope and Whiteless Pike. We'll reach 851m elevation at our highest point (2,792 ft) and we’ll hike approx. 20 miles......... it's not going to be easy work but considering the difficulties some of the families that we support face; it seems like a walk in the park.

Please help me raise much needed funds by sponsoring me for this event – any donation is appreciated, every penny really does count.

Thank you
