Story

Cheltenham Bournside School Kicks Off Charity of the Year Partnership with 4Ed

Cheltenham Bournside School is proud to announce that The 4Ed Foundation, the charity set up in honour of former Gloucester Rugby player Ed Slater, has been selected as its Charity of the Year for 2025/26.

The 4Ed Foundation was founded in honour of former Gloucester Rugby player Ed Slater, who was diagnosed with MND in 2022. Since then, the charity has worked tirelessly to raise awareness, fund research, and support families affected by the disease. With Gloucester Rugby’s support and the power of community fundraising, The 4Ed Foundation is making a meaningful impact locally and nationally.

The 4Ed Foundation is Bournside's second Charity of the Year, following on from the success of last year's partnership with the Lions at Large campaign, fundraising for The Big Space Cancer Appeal and the Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospital's Charity.

Following meeting with the 4Ed Foundation charity team, Mr Waters, Deputy Headteacher, will now officially launch the charity partnership to all students during House assemblies, challenging students to come together as a whole school community to fundraise for The 4Ed Foundation. Throughout the 2025/26 school year, Bournside students will take on a wide range of challenges — from rugby-inspired sporting events, to poetry competitions, student concerts, and more.

Bournside's school values align perfectly with the determination and resilience shown by those living with MND, along with their incredible families. Our students are already full of brilliant fundraising ideas, and we are delighted to get the whole school community behind The 4Ed Foundation to raise both awareness and vital funds. Good luck to everyone involved.

— Rob Waters, Deputy Headteacher (Culture), Cheltenham Bournside School

We are delighted that Cheltenham Bournside School has chosen to support The 4Ed Foundation as their Charity of the Year. The energy and commitment of young people is incredibly inspiring, and we are excited to see the creative ways Bournside will help raise awareness and funds for those living with MND.

- Gloucester Rugby Foundation CEO, Rob Webber

By working together, everyone at Cheltenham Bournside School hopes to make a lasting contribution to the fight against MND.
