Story
As you’ve read from my main fundraising page I’ve committed myself to swim the lengths of Coniston (5.25 miles) and Ullswater (7.25 miles) in the Lake District so I thought it was a perfect opportunity to raise some money for MacMillan.
It’s so sad that in this day and age nearly everyone has either been affected themselves or knows someone who’s been affected by cancer. Only this year, one of my best friends partner has gone through treatment and she is taking on the MacMillan mighty hike to support this fabulous charity. As I’m unable to walk with her I’ve chosen to support her by taking on these swim challenges.
There is a host of information on their website at https://www.macmillan.org.uk/ but in summary:
“There are almost 3.5 million people living with cancer in the UK today, and more than 360,000 are diagnosed every year. Thanks to fundraisers, donors, volunteers and supporters, MacMillan are able to provide essential services, care and guidance to people affected by cancer.
In 2023, they reached a staggering 2.3 million people affected by cancer and also help millions more through their information and support resources.
Millions of people living with cancer count on them for help with paying bills, going through treatment, or with how they're feeling. Thanks to you, we can continue to be there for them. Thank you for making this possible.”
Any donations will be greatly received and I promise to ‘just keep swimming’!
