Story
As 2025 marks 15yr since my dad passed away, I thought it was time to take on a new challenge and support a couple of charities. So, I’m throwing myself in the deep end (no pun intended) and dedicating this year to various swimming challenges.
After completing the triple 5km Swimathon weekend in March I decided it’s time to go longer, so on 21st June I’ll be swimming the length of Coniston (5.25 miles). Although I did this in 2020, you can tell from the photos that I didn’t enjoy the experience so I feel I have unfinished business and it will be the perfect warm up for the BIG one…..
And this really scares me as not only am I going to attempt to swim the full length of Ullswater (a mere 7.25 miles) but this lake is notorious for being a tad chilly & choppy so not only will I have to conquer the distance but if Mother Nature isn’t playing ball I could soon turn into a 🥶 and feel like I’m in a spin cycle!
Endurance swimming is something I've only dabbled with in the past, so these challenges are going to take me out of my comfort zone so I thought it was a perfect opportunity to raise some money for Level Water and MacMillan. There is more information on each of the individual Just Giving pages (links beside the Tribute Members heading) but in summary:
1. Level Water is a charity supported by the competition organisers and they provide 1-1 swimming lessons to disabled children all over the UK.
2. MacMillan is a charity that I’m sure you’ve all heard of and they provide cancer care and support to those affected by this terrible disease. It’s so sad that in this day and age nearly everyone has either been affected themselves or knows someone who’s been affected by cancer. Only this year, one of my best friends partner has gone through treatment and she is taking on the MacMillan mighty hike to support this fabulous charity. As I’m unable to walk with her I’ve chosen to support her by taking on these swim challenges.
Any donations will be greatly received but please don't feel that you have to donate to both charities.
Hoping Coniston not as choppy as in 2020 & I’m wearing a smile when I exit the water!!
