Story
Breast cancer touches far too many lives – including the remarkable women who form the backbone of the UK travel industry. This initiative is about more than just raising funds; it's about honouring those who’ve been affected, standing in solidarity with those still fighting, and remembering those we've lost.
We’re aiming to raise at least £5,000 for Breast Cancer Now, while also shining a spotlight on the power of resilience and community. As part of this, a group of inspiring women will be taking on a demanding two-day trek across Crete — a journey that mirrors the courage, strength and determination shown in the face of breast cancer.
A Trek That Pushes Limits – and Raises Awareness
Over two unforgettable days, participants will explore Crete’s breathtaking yet challenging terrain:
Day 1: Scaling Crete’s Highest Mountain – Mount Psiloritis
Distance: 6 miles round trip
Elevation: 2,456 meters – the island’s highest point
Duration: 6–7 hours
Difficulty: Moderate to challenging
Experience panoramic views across the island, from the White Mountains to the Libyan Sea. Hike along rugged, mythological trails before descending into the traditional village of Anogeia for a well-earned Cretan feast.
Day 2: The Legendary Samaria Gorge
Distance: 10 miles
Duration: 6–8 hours
Difficulty: Challenging
Trek through the dramatic cliffs and ancient forests of Europe’s second-longest gorge. Navigate the iconic 'Iron Gates' before reaching the serene coastal village of Agia Roumeli, where a refreshing swim and seaside dinner await.
This challenging journey will not only test physical endurance, but also serve as a powerful symbol of strength and unity in the fight against breast cancer. Many of the participants have been chosen for the bravery they’ve shown in their own battles, or in memory of loved ones lost too soon.
